Until the end of July, I was under contract to a brilliant gentleman named Alex Alexander. Since May however, I’ve been searching for a new job. But I had this idealistic goal that it not just be “a new job”, I want more than just a paycheck at this stage in my career.
I want to work with other talented designers and developers to learn as much as I can and build up any deficiencies in my skills. I want to work within an organization that isn’t focused on only a few clients but that is constantly getting a variety of work from many areas. I want to work with people that are passionate about creating work that isn’t just good enough but is creative and fun while solving the immediate problem of the client. Most of all, I want to gain experience in an organization that is 100% focused on design and multimedia rather that being part of an in-house team of designers. I want to see the inner machinations and routines of this type of organization and witness their approach to this industry’s unique set of business dilemmas.
Having as little professional experience as I do and given our current economic climate, it has been very difficult to find any positions, let alone a position that met my own lofty requirements. After a string of rejections and unfulfilled leads, I’ve been hired by Media Box Studios! I had an exceptional interview and decided at that point I couldn’t work for anyone else. I was persistent, but not annoying. It paid off and they took a chance on me! I’ve been hired as an intern initially and will (hopefully!) be brought on as a full Multimedia Developer very soon. After the first week I can honestly say that I love it. The commute is gorgeous and traffic-free. My coworkers are brilliant and talented. The office is cozy, inviting, open, and cube-free. I even get a 3 day weekend because we work 4 10-hour days. Somehow I got everything I asked for, and I feel very grateful and lucky. I wake up and look forward to the day’s work. I wish everyone could feel like that about their job. I can’t wait for Monday and I’m really thankful to everyone on the Media Box Studios team!
