Vacaciones estupendas a la Florida

Posted in Travel | Vacation

You probably noticed there are new photos on my Flickr page. Chrissy and I just returned from a wonderful vacation on Marco Island, Florida. We roomed at the Eagle’s Nest (not to be confused with this Eagle’s Nest) in a well-furnished villa directly on the beach.

How did two twenty-somethings with student loan debt afford, nay, even have time for such a trip? Well…we got lucky. Very lucky in fact. Chrissy works at a Fairfax area non-profit that put together an auction in mid-November. One of the prizes was a week stay at resort in Florida. Nobody bid on it, so the owners generously raffled it among the staff. With a 1 in 6 chance, Chrissy won the raffle and we won a free vacation, well, almost free. We had to drive to the resort (16 hours!!!) as I am uncomfortable flying on airplanes and it was much cheaper then airfare and a rental car. The drive down was exciting since she has never driven so far before. We had a chance to stop at South of the Border which is nice and cheezy. We stopped in Winter Park, Florida, and stayed, graciously, with a friend of mine from Full Sail. The next day we arrived at the resort and spent the rest of our time relaxing and enjoying the nice weather. The villa we stayed in was gorgeous and the view was superb. Marco Island itself is a fantastic place as well. There’s no traffic and everyone is happy and layed back.

It was sad to leave but we have a lot to catch up on here and a good deal of Christmas shopping to do. Also, we can’t have too much fun when everyone else we know is working so hard this time of year. We took plenty of pictures and it was nice to a have a break, especially for Chrissy. Now it’s back to cold weather and holiday traffic!!
